Our environment
Sustainability plays a central role in Grontmij’s own office activities.
We are the only engineering consultancy in the UK to report to the Global Reporting Initiative, which involves measuring our activities against a range of indicators covering the environment, human rights, society, product and services and economic performance. In future years we will be adding more indicators that will be verified by an external agency. Proactive approach to reducing carbon emissionsIn all that we do our overall aim is to use fewer amounts of materials and produce less CO2. We will:
• Reduce our use of energy and raw materials by raising our awareness of the steps we can take to use less and be more efficient in what we do use.
• Produce less waste by setting up reuse, recycling ands waste separation initiatives.
• Move materials and people over smaller distances by better use of technology (such has video conferencing) and being efficient in the planning and management of travel. Measuring our environmental footprint
To this end, we are currently measuring and setting targets for reducing our consumption of energy and water and for reducing our waste and greenhouse gas emissions. We have made a commitment to reporting our environmental footprint and performance. We have reported our carbon footprint to the Carbon Disclosure Project an independent not-for-profit organisation which holds the largest database of corporate climate change information. In addition, we have signed up to 10:10; an initiative where signatories commit to reducing their carbon emissions by 10% during 2010
