Station Hill in Reading gains planning approval
The mixed use development around Station Hill in Reading, for which Whitelaw Turkington (part of the Grontmij group) is acting as landscape masterplanner, has today received planning permission.
The scheme involves the demolition and comprehensive redevelopment of an existing urban block adjacent to Reading Station.
Whitelaw Turkington is working with the architects and design team to create an attractive, vibrant public realm at the heart of which lies a major new urban space for Reading. The proposal is for a mixed use development which includes approximately 18,000 m2 retail space, 80,000 m2 office and apartments, together with a community arts building and bowling alley.
The practice is also responsible for the preparation of the townscape and visual assessment chapter of the environmental statement. This involved addressing the effects of a significant cluster of tall buildings on the sensitive historic areas of Reading and the wider Berkshire countryside.
