Grontmij has a full appointment for the design of the mechanical and electrical services for this 33,000m2 major development in the City, including specialist vertical transportation and fire safety engineering services. The building include an expanded staff restaurant with a large outdoor terrace; a fitness centre; expanded car park and retail shops - all framed through a dramatic entrance with advanced security.
Grontmij’s early involvement allowed for the development of an energy efficient façade incorporating high efficiency double glazing on the north and south elevations of the tower and for the podium buildings. The tower incorporates a triple-skin ventilated façade with motorised solar-controlled blinds to the east and west elevations.
Referred to as a ‘green scraper’ by former London Mayor Ken Livingstone, the building’s excellent BREEAM rating was an exemplar for this benchmark project at the time.
