Grontmij has been appointed to provide the mechanical, electrical, public health and lift services for the project, as well as all environmental modelling and energy analysis for the building and submission to building control. Grontmij worked in partnership with Galliford Try as main contractor for this project.
The main objectives were that the academy would be an inspirational and high achieving academy where everyone continually strives to give and improve upon their personal best.
Extensive modelling was carried out by Grontmij to optimise comfort and energy uses and allow optimisation of renewable technology selections. These selections included optimized façades, natural ventilation as well as 20% onsite renewable energy achieved by use off ground source heat pumps for heating and cooling, solar hot water, photovoltaic cells and a wind turbine for supplementary benefit and educational aids.
