Oxford Brookes University, Gypsy Lane Campus

The initial phase of the masterplan implementation includes a new energy centre, new student centre building, remodelling of the Abercrombie Building and a new lecture theatre complex.

The project will generate a new focal point and centre of excellence for Oxford Brookes University. The main objectives are to create a new ‘front door’ which gives a focus and identity to the university and produce exemplar passive and low energy buildings to reduce the campus’ carbon footprint. The central energy centre will eventually provide for the entire campus at much increased efficiency and reduced CO2.

To achieve this sustainable design, Grontmij used extensive modelling of the buildings to optimise comfort and energy uses. From the findings it was decided to use optimized façades, daylight maximizing measures and extensive enhanced natural ventilation.
