ASPIRE wanted the new extension to embody their guiding principles of creating a building that serves the needs of able and less able-bodied people with equal ease.
Grontmij used a variety of heating and ventilation systems to change the environment according to the activity. To meet the needs of the visually impaired, specialist lighting, tactile signage and coding on handrails was installed. Within the lift, recorded messages announce floor levels and backlit controls are positioned at wheelchair height. Building maintenance can be undertaken by the widest possible team with control panels and instrumentation are positioned at wheelchair height and access enhanced.
