Gary joined Grontmij in 1981 after completing his university education. He has since worked on a wide range of projects, both in the UK and overseas, and became an associate in 2005.

His principal area of expertise lies in the design and specification of HVAC and specialist laboratory systems, the production of specialist studies, coordination of in-house resources and site supervision. As part of the BAA framework, Gary was a senior project leader on a number of major commissions at London Heathrow airport. This involved the planning, construction and fitting out of office, retail and specialist facilities whilst maintaining the airport operational.
