Assistant Engineer - Bridges (EDI/TRA/045) 

To undertake the detailed design and assessment of highways & Windfarm structures as appropriate, taking responsibility for the quality of the design work and compliance with Company IMS and Health & Safety

Outline of role: 

• To ensure that the technical content of all work carried out is correct and carried out in accordance within agreed timescales and within agreed budgets.
• To ensure that all work is carried out in full compliance with the Company’s Integrated Management Systems (IMS).
• To be able to take on significant elements of the detailed design personally.
• To be capable of working on their own initiative, with minimal supervision.
• To be able to work in close collaboration with team members of other disciplines and have an appreciation of their role
• Conversant with BS5400 and the general principles of structural engineering as these relate to bridges in particular and structures in general. An understanding of design to Eurocode would be an advantage.
• Experience of bridge analysis techniques (LUSAS, SAM or Strap preferred experience preferred but not essential). Working knowledge of MS Excel & AutoCad required.
• The ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with other team members and to produce reports in clear English

Qualifications required:  

BSC, MSC, BEng, MEng
Graduate Member of ICE or IStruct E working towards Chartered Status

Experience required:

Experience of the design of highway structures within a Design & Build environment

Qualities required: 

• Ability to work on own initiative and seek assistance when required
• Ability to organise and prioritise workload to ensure that timescales are met
• Good problem solving/contingency planning skills with ability to find quick, innovative and practical solutions
• Take responsibility for personal development
• Able to work collaboratively with others to form strong positive working relationships with colleagues, clients and contractors.
• Demonstrate pride in work, through accurate timely delivery
