Project Management of IT Systems Consultancy

Outline of role:
A client facing IT Project Manager with a systems bias, based in our Altrincham office spending extended periods working in clients’ offices, initially in the North West. The role will be to deliver various projects as determined by the client using a formal project methodology. The project will require conceptualisation, definition and implementation in line with the companies/clients’ frameworks.

To manage the delivery of the IT component of large projects to achieve agreed time, cost and quality targets.

Business Opportunity
• Input to technical elements of the Project Management Plan
• Receive instruction and clarify expectations from the Project Director
• Ascertain the client’s requirements for the project
• Support the preparation of the Scope of Services documents
• Prepare user requirements documents

Project Start-up
• Assist the Project Director to finalise the project brief, agree deliverables, key milestones, project methodology, quality assurance and control strategy
• Finalise and approve the Project Management Plan
• Finalise project checking and approval arrangements
• Determine project administration mechanisms
• Ensure contractual agreements are in place with the client to initiate project delivery

Project Delivery
• Review and validate design inputs
• Execute the Management Plan
• Management of risks and issues logs
• Implement and manage project administration mechanisms
• Act as the key point of contact and the focal point for all communication on the project, maintain regular dialogue with the client
• Manage the other members of the IT team – internal and within the client – to achieve specified output
• Appraise the client of all changes to the scope, cost, completion date.  Gain approval from client and Project Director prior to implementation.
• Implement change control processes for IT projects
• Participate in technical reviews
• Provide the Project Director with a monthly project progress update

Qualifications required:
• A degree in an appropriate computer / software discipline. Post graduate experience is essential
• PRINCE2 experience would be an advantage 

Experience required:
Minimum of 12 years experience within the utilities sector. Proven track record of working on large programmes of work. Experienced service requester with client facing responsibilities and a track record of successful projects, including experience in programme planning and budget preparation and monitoring.

Experience of delivering IT projects across varied platforms and technologies is essential for this role.

The primary role in the first instance would be on client site, delivering the IT components of larger data analysis/transformation projects.

The successful candidate will have the following skills/knowledge/experience:

Project Management:
• Resource planning
• Project planning
• Risk and issues management
• Converting user requirements into project deliverables.
• Technical Architecture and hardware specification writing.
• Documentation and Report Writing
• Developing Maintenance and Support Strategies
• High level design/interface specifications
• Microsoft project
• Project management methodologies including: PRINCE 2, APM, MSP, ITIL
• Ability to delivery IT projects on time and within budget

IT:
• Industrial IT, telemetry systems etc.
• Experience of Water industry
• Experience of planning and delivering full IT project lifecycle
• Experience of database design, development, implementation, testing and support – hierarchical, network, relational, object, multi-dimensional, XML
• Experience of large telemetry systems
• Ability to interpret user requirements and develop a high level solution based on the task in hand and the client’s expectations
• Experience and knowledge of large Information Management Projects
• Bid experience

Qualities required:
• Developing a strong relationship with clients and project teams is essential – requiring strong client facing skills and excellent communication techniques. The candidate must be able to work and communicate effectively within a team environment and will require a flexible approach to delivery of projects
• Good communications skills at all levels, must have strong presentation skills and strong interpersonal skills
• Strong leadership skills to provide successful project delivery.
• Ability to organise and prioritise the team workload to ensure that timescales are met
• Good problem solving/contingency planning skills with ability to find quick, innovative and practical solutions
• Effective negotiation and persuading skills, able to manage and diffuse challenging situations
• Project a professional image to clients and colleagues
• Able to work collaboratively with others to form strong positive working relationships with colleagues, clients and contractors
• Able to recognise own impact on others and adapt approach where appropriate
• Demonstrate pride in work, through accurate timely delivery
• Able to work away from home base for extended periods
