Nuclear Safety Integrity

The concept of Safety and Integrity Level (SIL) was introduced during the development of BS EN 61508 as a measure of the quality or dependability of a system which has a safety function. Grontmij has extensive experience in evaluation and determination of SIL in the nuclear industry, particularly in relation to electrical, electronic and programmable electronic safety related systems.

Helping you make the right decisions

The nuclear sector uses deterministic and probabilistic methods to establish the safety significance of systems that prevent or mitigate hazardous events. Grontmij in consultation with the client, provides the tools to determine the overall risk reduction requirements and hence SIL target value. In the case where a target value has been determined by a third party supplier, Grontmij provides in depth analysis to confirm or otherwise the claims by the supplier.
