Flood and drainage assessments
Grontmij undertook a flood risk assessment and outline drainage study for this major redevelopment site for Yorkshire Forward in York.
A large part of the site includes old railway infrastructure and we undertook on site investigations to establish the existing drainage arrangements. Whilst infiltration techniques, such as swales, could be used in isolated parts of the site the principal technique was flow balancing ponds to limit the disposal of surface water to the present rates. In total, some 10,000m3 of storage was required to be accommodated in the layout of the redeveloped site.
