Water Resource Study - Wilts & Berks Canal

Canal restoration

Grontmij is working closely with the Wilts and Berks Trust and other key stakeholders, including the Environment Agency, to identify and assess viable water resource options to restore the canal.

The study includes identification of all river, reservoir and groundwater sources, and analysis of the supply demand balance of the restored canal under various operational scenarios.

Environmental appraisal

We also undertook an environmental appraisal of the options and identified environmental enhancement opportunities, such as the creation of new aquatic habitats and wildlife corridors. Following an appraisal of options, including cost estimation, the study recommended construction of a series of storage reservoirs to maintain water supplies during summer months.
