Transfering knowledge and experience
Grontmij was commissioned by the Turkish government to assist in their implementation of the Water Framework Directive.
Country-wide scheme
The project has national and regional components. At a national level, the institutional and legislative components of the WFD were addressed in a National Platform. Among other things, this platform determined the river basin districts in Turkey.
Understanding regional issues
At a regional level, we carried out a pilot study of the Büyük Menderes River Basin. We drew up a river basin management plan and produced a handbook. The transfer of knowledge and experience played an important role, and this took place through courses in the Netherlands and Turkey.
