Ecology
Terrestrial ecology
Grontmij undertakes terrestrial ecological surveys and assessments on a range of projects for clients including water companies, local authorities, regional development agencies and private clients.
Our ecologists are experienced with a wide variety of techniques such as protected species and habitat and botanical surveys. We are also well equipped to advise on appropriate regulatory requirements and guidelines. In addition, we are one of the few ecological teams in the UK to develop Geographical Information Systems (GIS) as an effective monitoring tool.
Aquatic ecology
We have a strong track record with aquatic ecological surveys in wetland and freshwater environments including fens, standing water and running water. Our ecologists hold Environment Agency 2006 accreditations for river habitat surveys.
We undertake specific ecological surveys for aquatic macrophytes; aquatic macro-invertebrates; fisheries studies using a variety of techniques including electro-fishing; surveys for protected riverine mammals; and bird surveys for breeding, over-wintering and passage species.
