Irby Reservoir to Caistor Top Reservoir pipeline
Irby Reservoir to Caistor Top Reservoir pipeline
Providing water for 9000
Anglian Water Services proposes to construct a new 10km pipeline between the Irby and Caistor Top service reservoirs in Lincolnshire. The main purpose for constructing the pipeline is to ensure adequate supplies of potable water for the area.
The Grimsby, Irby reservoir (GRMWR) is the main service reservoir for Grimsby and the surrounding areas. The Caistor Top reservoir serves the town of Caistor and environs (population approximately 9,000).
Cost effective and sustainable
In order to meet its statutory obligations to provide potable water to the local community, Anglian Water needs to provide additional means of supplying the Irby storage reservoir. The new underground gravity pipeline is considered the most cost-effective and environmentally sustainable option.
Grontmij, as part of the @one Alliance, was commissioned to undertake the EIA for the scheme. The proposed route lies within open countryside which is predominantly arable farmland. The Caistor Top reservoir lies within the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the town of Caistor is a former Roman market town.
Minimising impact
Landscape, ecology and archaeology are the key issues being addressed within the EIA. Grontmij has completed extensive survey work which has influenced the final route selection so as to minimise potential impacts.
