RMA Woolwich Redevelopment
RMA Woolwich Redevelopment
Creating a community
The former Royal Military Academy (RMA) and barracks at Woolwich, south London is to be redeveloped into 300+ high quality residential units. There will be a mix of luxury and affordable housing, together with small commercial units and central community facilities.
The RMA is a focal point of the local community and parts of the site comprise Grade II listed buildings. The concept for the new development embraces the historic and cultural significance of the site and fuses it with contemporary new build.
Excellent client relationships
Grontmij has a long association with the site having worked with the former site owners (MoD) on land contamination issues. Grontmij was subsequently commissioned by the new owners, Durkan New Homes, to provide specialist technical input to the EIA for the new development.
This included land quality, noise and air quality assessments. Potential contamination hotspots were identified and risk assessments completed to inform the architectural design and construction methods.
The noise assessment (including 24 hour baseline studies) was able to demonstrate that nearby residential properties would be unaffected by noise from the increased traffic generated by the development. A PPG24 noise assessment was also carried out to establish design criteria for noise attenuation within parts of the new development that will be adjacent to the busy A205.
