The project aims to provide a unique sports and leisure amenity at Black Rock, Brighton. The development will be a critical element in the continuing rejuvenation of the seafront and will comprise a professional competition ice rink that doubles as a large public arena, retail and residential units.
Overlooked by a conservation area and adjacent to a SNCI, the location is particularly sensitive. As a result
an extensive biodiverse roof is proposed spanning both the site and the adjacent residential block. It will be designed to create habitats relating to the beach, coastal walks and cliffs. The design will explore a lightweight soilless growing medium of pre-sown species in felt to meet the constraints of establishing habitat in an exposed location.
