Hayes Canalside
This scheme includes residential, leisure, hotel and retail brownfield development situated on a 2.1 hectare brownfield site between the main line station and the Grand Union canal.
The project consists of a remodelled station approach linked to a new civic square with a bold shared surface paving design and tree planting on the western edge of the site. The landscape becomes gradually more informal through residential courtyards until it reaches a meadow area on the eastern boundary.
The canalside provides public access beside the civic square leading down to barge moorings. The rest of the canal edge has been softened with sympathetic planting to encourage wildlife and reduce the impact of the development on the canal environs, in close liaison with the Environment Agency.
