Hungate Quarter, York
The Hungate area is the largest remaining redevelopment opportunity within York’s city walls and offers a unique opportunity for a major new mixed use scheme. Grontmij worked with masterplanners John Thompson & Partners on two community planning weekends to develop a new urban neighbourhood within the heart of the city.
Issues relating to the ecological enhancement of the River Foss and protection of extensive archaeological remains were part of the landscape brief. There is also an opportunity to improve the ecological diversity of the Foss Corridor and we worked closely with ecologists, engineers and the Environment Agency to establish the hydrological and environmental constraints and opportunities.
