Station Hill, Reading
The scheme involves the demolition and comprehensive redevelopment of an existing urban block adjacent to Reading Station. The proposal is for a mixed use development which including 100,000 ft2 retail space, 20,000 ft2 office and apartments, together with a community arts building and health and fitness centre.
Grontmij is the landscape masterplanner for the development working with architects and design team to create an attractive viable public realm at the heart of which lies a major new urban space for Reading. Grontmij was also responsible for the preparation of the townscape and visual assessment chapter of the environmental statement. This involved addressing the effects of a significant cluster of tall buildings on the sensitive historic areas of Reading, and on the wider Berkshire countryside.
