Greenwich Peninsula

Greenwich Peninsula Central, London

Grontmij has been responsible for the detailed design of the streets and spaces which form the Peninsula Central and riverside phases of the peninsula mastreplan and are now acting in an advisory role during construction.

Grontmij’s design approach is focussed on the creation of a new identity which takes its clues from the history of the site. The Peninsula has always been defined, both physically and psychologically, by the presence of the River Thames on three sides. Today the natural characteristics of the river are overlaid with the legacy of the Peninsula’s industrial maritime past.

The public realm is a matrix of streets and spaces that change in character from the formal and civic at Peninsula Square to the informal towards the south and the residential areas to the east.
