A 260 Ha proposed development on a peninsular in north-east Crete consists of five new tourist village settlements together with infrastructure and championship golf courses on monastery land. Each settlement will have access to extensive sports, entertainment, restaurant and retail amenities.
Grontmij carried out a landscape and visual impact assessment, together with concept and detail design proposals, drawn up for submission to the Greek authorities.
The development promotes high principles of sustainable and environmental design, following careful understanding of variations in local settlement typology and will include trials for regeneration of natural vegetation types under threat in the area from over-grazing. This will include a desalination plant, waste water treatment plants, a full range of recycling facilities and rainwater collection tanks.
