5 Mar 2012 | The University of Winchester’s Performing Arts Faculty Studios wins Civic Trust Award

A collaborative scheme to create a sustainable and innovative building design, supported by Grontmij is amongst this year’s winners for the 2012 Civic Trust Awards.

The University of Winchester’s Performing Arts Faculty Studios is amongst the winners for this year’s awards in the South East region. The award recognises projects that make an outstanding contribution to the quality and appearance of the environment.

Led by the Design Engine Architects and supported by Heyne Tillett Steel and Grontmij, Grontmij’s engineers were tasked with developing a new build project to encompass energy saving and passive techniques to provide comfortable and flexible use in a noise sensitive environment. The scheme has an innovative bespoke natural ventilation and heating system which has allowed the building to achieve a display energy Certificate rating of ‘A’ the highest attainable.

The University of Winchester’s Performing Arts Faculty Studios was recognised for its contemporary architecture which is in keeping with other recent developments to uplift the environmental quality of the campus.

52 projects were recognised at the prestigious awards ceremony on Friday 2nd March, held at The Hub in Edinburgh.
