Grontmij, as engineering consultant to Transport Scotland, played a central role at the Inquiry, presenting evidence on the route options, preliminary design and consultation of the project that incorporates a new 9.5km section of dual carriageway between Balmedie and Tipperty.
As part of the project, Grontmij provided project managers, highway bridge designers, environmental experts and specialists in traffic and economic analysis, carrying out feasibility study, design and implementation of the proposed 9.5k dualling of the A90 between, which incorporates an off line dual two lane carriageway, linking with the existing dual carriageway section north of Tipperty and south of Balmedie.
Throughout the project, Grontmij employed a proactive approach to third party engagement, commencing at route option stage to ensure that interested parties and key stakeholders were consulted and involved throughout the scheme.
Iain Scott, Transportation & Mobility Business Line Director, said: “We believe that the extensive stakeholder engagement, communication and collaboration we employed during this scheme provided benefits in developing a common understanding that led to a limited number of objections to the scheme being filed.”
“The Grontmij team worked closely with Transport Scotland throughout the project and we are committed to providing continued support for Scotland’s infrastructure development.”
News of the A90 upgrade comes as another Grontmij project, the M80 Stepps to Haggs, opened six months ahead of schedule.
The Moodiesburn Bypass, a key section of the M80 Stepps to Haggs project, will significantly reduce traffic through the villages of Moodiesburn, Chryston and Muirhead by 70 per cent.
The new section will remove around 45,000 vehicles a day from the existing A80 between Mollinsburn and Stepps, helping communities in Moodiesburn, Chryston and Muirhead by reducing emissions and improving their quality of life.
Grontmij has a long history of success in partnership with Transport Scotland, which includes recently winning a coveted Saltire Award for the successful A830 Road to the Isles improvement scheme.
