These new spaces will link Manchester Cathedral Quarter with the heart of a new 13-hectare, mixed-use development.

A new public square, animated by water features and sculptural Beacon Towers, together with a new bridge across the River Irwell are all part of a unique public realm design that will establish Greengate as a new city centre destination. 

Works to start in 2010

Just minutes from Victoria Station and the commercial heart of Manchester, Greengate will be home to 2,500 residential units and over 85,000 sq m of commercial floor space. Greengate is expected to attract over £580m of private sector investment. The public realm team submitted a planning application in March 2009 with work on the ground starting in 2010. The project is being delivered by Central Salford URC and Salford City Council, working alongside its development partner, ASK Developments.

Greengate will provide a catalyst for the effective regeneration of the Chapel Street corridor. The first phases of the public realm are due to start on site in summer 2010.”
