As part of Thames Water’s overall £5 billion investment, Grontmij is one of a number of suppliers and contractors selected for the £95m programme of work for AMP5, providing a programme management office and acting as project manager for the regional SCADA and site SCADA projects.
Work includes the migration of three separate regional systems into a single new central system, the replacement of up to 89 site SCADA systems across a range of different types and sizes of facility, as well as specialist technical and asset management support. Grontmij will be working with international consultancy, construction and programme management company Mace Group to deliver the project.
With over 20 years’ experience of working with the UK’s water companies, Grontmij has a high level of technical capability to deliver the in-depth replacement programme. Current projects include Telemetry Replacement and Integration (TeRI) for Severn Trent Water and the similar Intelligent Remote Information Service (IRIS) for Anglian Water.
Lawrence Hughes, group director of water & energy at Grontmij, said: “It is fantastic to be appointed to such an important and high profile project by Thames Water. Winning a further SCADA replacement programme is demonstrative of our knowledge, expertise and impressive track record in the water and utilities sector. The contract also offers us the opportunity to develop a wider relationship with Mace Group.”
The initial appointment by Thames Water is for two years and will comprise a combined Grontmij Mace team based in Thames’ Reading offices, peaking at around 20 employees, with Grontmij providing two thirds of the team.
