Grontmij hops into the lead
Six employees from Grontmij are hopping into the semi final of a national leadership competition this week and appealing to locals for support.
On Friday 4th September, the team, competing under the name ‘Wallace and Grontmij’, will undertake a 24 hour fundraising campaign, aiming to raise £600 for Challenge Africa as part of the semi final of The Times Leadership Challenge.
The team, will jump start the fundraising by doing two laps each around Roundhay Park in Leeds on Space Hoppers, and are urging locals to come down to cheer them on.
Amy Henstock, Environmental Consultant, said, “Although the challenge requires us to raise £600, we are putting every effort into it and aiming to reach £1,000. The Times Leadership Challenge is a fantastic way to support charity, while using the skills from our day to day jobs. As a multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy, Grontmij is accustomed to developing collaborative, innovative solutions, and we hope we can demonstrate this to the judges through our fundraiser, as well as showing a bit of our personality with the Space Hopping theme.”

The Times Leadership Challenge, which has run since 2004, is a unique competition designed to develop leadership, motivation and management skills in a controlled, yet stimulating environment.
Prior to the semi final, the teams are required to raise £600 for Challenge Africa through a novel, yet uncomplicated method. The semi final itself is an intense 24 hour period where teams are scored on flexibility, adaptability, collaboration and innovative solutions, as well as individuals being assessed on their contribution to team leadership.
The successful teams will go on to the final, travelling to the village of Mamine in Malawi to build two classrooms and teachers’ accommodation to improve the educational facilities available.
