Grontmij was required to produce a thorough transport assessment to support a planning application for an extension to the Moat House Hotel on Homer Road, Solihull. This hotel now operates under the Holiday Inn brand.

Assessing potential traffic input

An assessment was carried out of the roundabout junctions and the access of the site to allow determination of the potential traffic impact. Traffic generated as a result of the proposed development was determined by interrogation of the TRICS programme (version 2004).

Grontmij was able to show conclusively through the use of relevant junction capacity assessment programmes, that the existing exit to the hotel onto Homer Road operated satisfactorily and would continue to do so in 2015 both with and without the additional generated traffic.

Sustainable location

Grontmij concluded that the hotel was in a highly sustainable location and that there were no sustainable highway or transportation reasons why planning permission should not be granted for the proposed hotel extension.
