Scope of study

The N8 between Rathcormac and Fermoy forms part of the Cork to Dublin national primary route, which the government is committed to improving to a higher standard of road.

Grontmij was commissioned by the NRA to carry out a study into the potential of tolling the N8 including :-
• Determining the preferred location of the plaza
• Outline design of the main toll plaza along with supplementary tolling facilities on junction slip roads
• Methods of toll collection
• The impact of tolling on traffic diversion rates
• Traffic growth forecasts
• Revenue forecasts and whole life costings

Environmental impact assessment

As part of the commission, Grontmij also produced the necessary toll orders and an explanatory statement summarising the details of the proposed toll scheme and had input into the environmental impact statement and compulsory purchase orders.
