Utilising RoSy in Copenhagen

The initial scope of this commission for the municipality of Copenhagen was to supply an integrated asset management system for the 515km regional road network which includes a wide range of road types typical of many city regions. The scope included:

  • Provision of asset management software comprising of the asset inventory and condition database, deterioration modeling and investment optimization plan
  • Migration of geometric and traffic volume data for the whole network, and asset condition data for 50% of the network, held by the client
  • Asset condition survey and upload for the remaining 50% of the network
  • Identification of optimal maintenance expenditure for the next 10 year period

The brief was subsequently extended to include:

  • Validation of the 50% asset condition data supplied by the client and subsequent resurvey due to poor data quality identified
  • A geospatial visualisation user interface – inclusion of drainage networks, footways and cycle tracks in the asset inventory
  • Vehicle mounted asset location and condition surveys under a three year contract recently renewed for a further three years
  • Training of the client’s technical team in:
  • Surveying of asset condition - Use of the system
  • Use of PDA for asset location and condition survey and subsequent upload into the system
  • Identification of optimal maintenance expenditure for the next 20 year period based on up to date asset location and condition data, as part of a rehabilitation programme to reduce the maintenance backlog
  • Recent extension of the system to cover bridge management and aspects of operational management such as maintenance, as well as the management of road space booking by statutory undertakers and other third parties

Grontmij applied RoSy® and tailored the system to include the management of pavement, bridges and structures, street furniture, drainage networks, cycleways and footpaths, as well as deterioration modelling, investment planning and visualisation functions. The modules deployed are called RoSy BASE, RoSy PLAN, RoSy MAP, RoSy BRIDGE, RoSy DIG and RoSy PDA.

Copenhagen has expanded their use of RoSy to include their diverse range of roads and related infrastructure, the condition is known and using the tools in RoSy, they can plan maintenance budgets with confidence.
