Grontmij’s pavement team has extensive experience of undertaking standard and analytical pavement designs in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and associated design standards on motorways and trunk roads, national primary, secondary and local roads throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Typically this includes assessing traffic volumes and site constraints, including foundation requirements, before preparing pavement drawings and specifications in accordance with the Specification of Highway Works.  We work closely with contractors and asphalt suppliers to ensure optimum material choices.

A further element of our pavement designs is an accurate specification of skid resistance by selecting aggregate properties such as the minimum polished stone value and maximum aggregate abrasion values.  Where very high skid resistance is required: high friction surfacing is specified.

The team also has diverse experience in the repair and rehabilitation of existing roads.

As well as asphaltic pavement designs we have specialist experience in designing rigid concrete and natural stone pavements.
