Manufacturer and operator of LWDs

Unusually for a consultancy, Grontmij manufactures and operates the most widely used Light Weight Deflectometer (LWD) in the UK - the Prima 100. This enables rapid determination of the overall stiffness of foundations constructed from unbound and modified materials, thus enabling pavement design optimisation / assumption checking and hence improved value for money. 

Ensuring compliance with Highways Agency standards

Grontmij is in a unique position to provide advice on how to make best use of the equipment in accordance with the Highways Agency’s standards, which specifically refer to the use of LWDs (and HD29 and 30 for the full scale FWD).The consultancy’s extensive experience enables maximisation of the reuse of existing pavements or foundations, thereby saving expenditure and assisting with carbon footprint reduction.
