The A1 Dishforth to Leeming (formerly Dishforth to Barton) is an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) project to upgrade the existing dual carriageway to dual 3 lane motorway standard. Grontmij was responsible for preparing pavement options for the contractor to price; from these an optimum pavement design was derived.
Assessment and Overlay Designs
Grontmij also oversaw the assessment of the existing carriageway for reuse as the new motorway and sections to be returned to the local authority. The services provided included:
- desk study of the HAPMS data
- planning and supervising the required investigations (using a Grontmij Pri2100 Falling Weight Deflectometer)
- analysis of the assessment data to determine the residual life
- optimisation of the overlay design to give the client best value for money and reduce the carbon footprint of the project by the reuse of significant sections of the existing road pavement.
