Grontmij’ has extensive experience of undertaking standard and analytical pavement designs in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and associated design standards on motorways and trunk roads, national primary, secondary and local roads throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland.

This comprises assessing traffic volumes and site constraints, including foundation requirements, before preparing pavement drawings and specifications in accordance with the Specification of Highway Works.  Grontmij work closely with contractors and asphalt suppliers to ensure optimum material choices.

A further element of Grontmj’s pavement designs is an accurate specification of skid resistance, by selecting aggregate properties such as the minimum polished stone value and maximum aggregate abrasion values.  Where very high skid resistance is required: high friction surfacing is specified.

Grontmij has diverse expertise in the repair and rehabilitation of existing roads.

As well as asphaltic pavement designs, Grontmij has specialist experience in designing rigid concrete and natural stone pavements.
