Each year, Newcastle-under-Lyme College helps over 12,000 people to develop their skills and qualifications. The new college development will open in 2009 on land between Ashfields New Road and Knutton Lane in North Staffordshire. The development includes brand new sports hall, facilities, new educational buildings and a new Sainsbury’s development.

Grontmij was required to work closely with the college and Sainsburys consultants to ensure that the project plans were ready to submit for approval. To do this Grontmij was commissioned to provide a comprehensive travel plan framework, car parking strategy, technical note on car parking and have input into the creation of an overall accessibility statement and transport assessment.

Case for local planning authority

We provided dedicated understanding of the current and forecasted situation in relation to car parking, pedestrian movements, staff numbers, student numbers and their modes of travel to enable the preparation of a solid and detailed case to present to the local planning authority.
