Plant Control and Automation
Plant Control and Automation
Extensive experience
Grontmij has extensive experience of automating and monitoring water and waste water process and plants. We provide a complete service from feasibility through to project completion.
Industry drivers
Many of the large treatment works which were automated in the early 1990s due to obsolescence are now due for upgrading. Overall integrated data management policies as part of company wide asset management schemes are dictating a higher level of integration between the works systems and the corporate business. There is a continuing demand to reduce manpower, energy and chemical costs and hence the drive to automate the various water and waste water works.
Programme definition
Grontmij can develop entire replacement programmes. We have carried out failure mode analysis where there are large numbers of the same type of device. We develop risk and consequence of failure programmes in order to have a prioritised methodology, for example, for PLCs.
Where there are large programmes of replacement on similar types of sites/ process we have developed and mapped processes to ensure a consistent and efficient approach. This can be integrated with the capital procurement process to ensure it goes through the same rigorous financial control process.
Feasibility and specification
On many works where re-automation is needed, it is often required to carry out a study to ascertain its feasibility. Grontmij has the necessary experience for this including knowledge of the latest technology that can be applied, as well as taking full consideration of the business drivers, standards and procurement practices.
Where re-automation is to be undertaken, Grontmij works closely with our clients to ensure that the new automation meets the latest working practice and not the original process where it has been modified. We also provide formal hazops, and where appropriate, incorporate safety critical shut down systems.
Project implementation
Grontmij has extensive experience in successfully delivering both multi-site programmes of automation and also large single works including some of the largest treatment plants in the country. We have a fully defined methodology for carrying out these complex projects whilst ensuring the treatment process is not interrupted. This ranges from the procurement and ensuring this is in line with company policy, through health and safety, to rigorous test regimes, all of which ensure the project is delivered on time and to the client’s satisfaction.
